1. The Star Yoga Student
She had been attending a Bikram class at the local yoga studio for the past four months. The only thing she loved more than the post-yoga afterglow was the teacher himself. He’d often gently place a hand on her lower back to correct her form, or even go so far as to deepen her stretches by adding some of his weight to hers.
As the rest of the class filtered out of the room with their rolled mats, she lingered. “Mind helping me with my headstands for a bit?” she said, involuntarily biting her lip.
2. The Intergalactic War
“It’s been a long struggle for all of us,” he sighed. The fighting had lasted for years, and he longed to go back to his life from before the invaders had arrived. He was a young man then, and they had stolen his best years from him.
Cadets weren’t meant to mingle, but his weariness moved her. She reached her hand to his saying, “Let’s pretend tonight like this whole horrible war had never happened. Just for one night. We deserve that don’t we?”
3. The Pirate’s Booty
She was feared as one of the deadliest captains on the high seas. She demanded the respect of her crew, and they gladly gave it – fearing for their own lives if they bungled an order. Everyone has a weakness, however, and hers was the First Mate.
As she finished her solitary dinner, she lit a small lamp outside the door of her quarters. It was their secret signal that his presence was expected.
4. The King’s Arena
The two knights fought for sport in the arena and had earned much glory for their victories. From the outside, it seemed as though a multitude of miracles had saved them from certain death. The reality was that they had continued to save each other. Having survived another round of slaughter during this day’s tournament, tonight was a cause for celebration.
5. The Gentleman Gardener
She watched him work, wherever he went in the yard. He was aware of her prying eyes and did very little to discourage it. He found it thrilling to know she was always there observing, a glass of lemonade perpetually in her hand.
Today he had been tasked with trimming the boxwoods. It was midday and he had removed his shirt for relief from the heat. Then, for the first time ever, she approached him – this time with two lemonades in hand.
6. The Scintillating Survivalists
That day they had stumbled across a prolific palm tree and put finishing touches on their makeshift shelter. As raindrops pelted the roof of woven foliage, they laid together as lovers would – her shoulder tucked into the crook of his arm. They had known each other less than 48 hours, and yet it felt as though they had already shared a lifetime of experiences.
7. The Return Home
He remembered her as restless, always anxious to ditch their little town. The most recent word was that she had done fairly well for herself in the city, but had returned to care for her ailing parents.
She was leaving the supermarket, struggling with two arms full of bags. “No need to be a hero! Just ask a neighbor for help,” he said as he ran to help lighten her load. Her eyes flashed as she searched to place his face in her memory, then her mouth dropped when she realized it was him – only much more attractive than she remembered.
